Grandad Bluff
Through
generous donations Grandad Bluff is protected land by the city to
keep land set aside for scenic and recreational activities as well as to preserve the natural environment of La Crosse. Grandad Bluff is the largest bluff in the La Crosse area. It's often used for sight-seeing, hiking trails, picnics, and firework celebrations (4th of July and New Year's).
Grandad bluff was once used as a limestone quarry and as a large source of construction. When the land was supposed to be sold for large-scale quarrying residents were angry. Joseph and Irene Hixon purchased the land and donated, what is now known as Grandad Bluff to the city.
La Crosse's Grandad Bluff is protected under the Bluffland Protection Program. For more information regarding the Bluffland Protection Program please visit the website below.
